Abstract
This Master Thesis aims to investigate the reasons why Scania Assistance can see a decrease
in number of assistance cases. The problem has been divided into a quantitative analysis
based on statistics and a qualitative analysis based on expertise.
A new way of structuring the statistical material has made it possible to identify German
French, Belgian and Italian customers as Scania Assistance´s critical markets. The following
field studies have been concentrated to these four markets.

field studies have been concentrated to these four markets.
Six factors which affect Scania Assistance´s business have been identified and served as
starting point when analyzing the critical markets respectively. These factors of influence are
product quality, competition, the development of the fleets, the business cycle and
utilization, weather conditions and changes of the customer behavior.
The conclusion is that the number of assistance cases decreases as a logical effect of an
improved product quality. However, performed analysis indicates that there is a grey zone
and that Scania Assistance´s negative trend on certain Central European markets not only is
a result of an improved product quality. Scania Assistance is therefore recommended to
perform a competition analysis concentrated to Central Europe in order to get a clear picture
of the current situation on the market for assistance service in this region. That the effects of
an improved product quality can be seen in the same year as the competition is becoming
stronger and simultaneous with an economic upswing is a coincidence which strengthens the
complexity of the problem and also complicates the analysis. (Less)
