Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this master thesis is for Nolato Medevo to extract a
system that measures the company’s manufacturing capacity. The system should
also show the reasons why the utilization rate becomes as it is. Analysis of the
output values from the system, as well as observations, should lead to proposals on
how to improve the efficiency in the production.
Methodology: Both a quantitative and a qualitative approach in the information
gathering has been used. Qualitative methodology has been used during interviews
and observations. Quantitative approach has been used during the collection of
statistical data.

values on the utilization rate. Other recognized theories within quality and
production management have been used during gathering and analysis of data.
Procedure: The first phase in the thesis was to survey suitable parameters and to
find methods on how to get these. In the second phase, statistics was gathered and a
computer program was constructed to process and visualize data. Through
observations and with help from the program, the data was analysed in phase three,
providing results and conclusions.
Conclusions: On the three examined departments on Nolato Medevo, Lomma has
an OEE value of 60 percent, Torekov 40 percent and the extrusion department 10
percent. Major actions to improve the utilization rate in Lomma and Torekov plants
are that more focus should be on how to reduce downtime after major breakdowns,
a better alarm system and further education for the night and weekend shift.
Implementation of three shifts at the extrusion department would lead to a great
improvement of the utilization rate, simultaneously as a wide range of other
problems in the production would be avoided. (Less)
