The material for this study is exclusively policy texts and the objective is to problematize these documents concerning sustainable development from a gender perspective. In this study, the Swedish government, EU and UN policies regarding sustainable development will critically be examined, with a special focus of the areas of consumption and transportation. I study the meeting between the policy areas of gender equality and sustainable development and look at its implications. In doing this, I will apply Carol Bacchi’s method “What’s the problem represented to be?”. The result shows that gender aspects of sustainable development often are invisible in these policies. Even though that in the areas of transportation and consumption are clear, that gender differences are present and important to take into account to be able to reach a sustainable development. (Less)
