- Through time Sweden has become a multicultural society due to the immigration. Statistics show that foreign-born persons have a lot more difficulties to confront compared to Swedish-born people, not least at the labour market. The integration in the Swedish society is often seen as deficient because of the situation at the labour market and in relation to the Swedish language. But integration is a multifaceted concept, which means that integration not only refers to having a job. It can also imply having a good relationship with Swedish-born people. The integration in the Swedish society is often seen as deficient because of the situation at the labour market and in relation to the Swedish language. But integration is a multifaceted concept, which means that integration not only refers to having a job. It can also imply having a good relationship with Swedish-born people. Integration can be a short or a long process and analysing the concept also means that factors like gender, ethnicity and class have to be included to get a wider perspective. Therefore my intention with this study was to illuminate integration from the perspective of five foreign-born persons living in Sweden. My selection was limited to four ethnicities which may have affected the result. The method I used was qualitative interview with a semi structured model. The empirical material has been analyzed through intersectionality theory. The result shows that integration for the interviewees is about the relationship with Swedish-born people, individual security and respect from the society, which could imply not being discriminated. The interviews also showed that some factors are more important than others to be integrated into the society as the Swedish language, the own willingness to be integrated and the relationship with Swedish-born people. Obstacles for integration can be the ethnic background with the foreign name, the social system and religion. The empirical material also showed how intersectionality categories affect the integration for example education and work experience seen from class category. (Less)
