- Abstract
- This essay contains an analysis of the Root Causes of the Post Election Violence that broke out in Kenya after the 2007 election. Authors of the action plans for prevention of similar situations need to make assumptions of causal relations in order to take the right measures and make the right changes. - This essay contains an analysis of the Root Causes of the Post Election Violence that broke out in Kenya after the 2007 election. Authors of the action plans for prevention of similar situations need to make assumptions of causal relations in order to take the right measures and make the right changes. The main focus of this paper lies on the assumptions on causal mechanisms of those phenomena that are seen as important for conflict prevention. They are based on a conception that an outbreak of violence is a logical consequence of the presence of certain conditions and that it is possible to make conclusions from past events to know what to expect in a given future situation. If the causal analysis of the previous outbreak of violence is not accurate there will not be enough preparedness if a similar situation reoccurs. As Kenya and her friends and allies prepare for the coming election in 2012, it is important to allocate responsibility to duty bearers of the responsibility to prevent Human Rights violations. Finally this text considers whether the political changes and reforms that the state and intergovernmental actors of the international community have taken are the right actions to prevent Election Violence, or if they have failed in their responsibility to prevent another crisis in the future.
