- Abstract
- This essay is an analysis of the Marxist ideology in theory and Cuban politics de facto, from a feminist point of view. The purpose with the analysis is to investigate possible links between the theoretical Marxism, Cuban politics and the presence of sex tourism in Cuba. This analysis is meant to work as a tool for discussing the fact that sex tourism is not in any way justified according to Marxism theory and the direct words of Fidel Castro. Though, during the economic crisis in Cuba, the Cuban government invested in tourism, when trying to save the revolution. - This essay is an analysis of the Marxist ideology in theory and Cuban politics de facto, from a feminist point of view. The purpose with the analysis is to investigate possible links between the theoretical Marxism, Cuban politics and the presence of sex tourism in Cuba. This analysis is meant to work as a tool for discussing the fact that sex tourism is not in any way justified according to Marxism theory and the direct words of Fidel Castro. Though, during the economic crisis in Cuba, the Cuban government invested in tourism, when trying to save the revolution. Additionally the government decided that tourists and Cubans were going to use different currencies. This creates tourism apartheid, since tourists are able to buy luxurious supplies and some places are for tourists only. I have found that women in Cuba are disfavoured, since according to the Cuban law of prostitution, the prostitutes are imposed guilt upon and the government’s decisions seems to be the underlying reason why sex tourism occurs in Cuba. To investigate whether the situation women in Cuba experience is just, I have used John Rawls liberal theory of justice in comparison with the Marxism theory of justice. (Less)
