Abstract
Understanding how women gets a grip of consumer electronics is not only interesting for a designer but also for society
as a whole. To consume electronics gives the individual appreciated and valuable skills. The person who works with
technology has the power to lead the development and earn money.
The purpose of the report is to examine how the relationship between women, technology, design and equality
is described in the literature. A literature review is conducted to answer the question: How does design contribute to
or prevent equality? The work includes the development of preferences for a sound system so that it appeals to female

Understanding how women gets a grip of consumer electronics is not only interesting for a designer but also for society
as a whole. To consume electronics gives the individual appreciated and valuable skills. The person who works with
technology has the power to lead the development and earn money.
The purpose of the report is to examine how the relationship between women, technology, design and equality
is described in the literature. A literature review is conducted to answer the question: How does design contribute to
or prevent equality? The work includes the development of preferences for a sound system so that it appeals to female
consumers. This is achieved through two surveys, the results answer the question: Which stereos and speakers attracts
women and men? The aim is to examine male and female form, color and texture. Survey two responds the questions:
What features attracts women and men? Who owns the knowledge of consumer electronics? What do people think
about the combination women and electronics? The aim of the questions is to find characteristics that appeal to women
and to apply them to the sound system. Further the aim is to find out whether the women own less knowledge about
consumer electronics or not. Further the purpose is to examine if we are surrounded by norms and prejudices. The
conclusion is that in society there are norms that lead consumers in their choice of product. As a woman or man you
are excluded from different areas due to products are given a form belonging to one or the other sex. (Less)
