Abstract
Pollen analysis was made on a profile from the wetland complex Rolands Hav, Blekinge. The aim of the study was to investigate and document the development of the vegetation. The wetland area of Rolands Hav has developed during more than 10 000 years. The stratigraphy of this area will reveal valuable information about environmental changes during this time. The results of the pollen analysis is presented in a broad outline. Pinus-Betula forests were replaced by Pinus-Corylus forests. The forests became denser due to the Corylus expansion and when the climate became warmer the forests of nemoral broad-leaved trees (Quercus, Tilia, Ulmus and Fraxinus) were established. Human impact made the woods more open and Fagus got the chance to invade.... (More)

The forests became denser due to the Corylus expansion and when the climate became warmer the forests of nemoral broad-leaved trees (Quercus, Tilia, Ulmus and Fraxinus) were established. Human impact made the woods more open and Fagus got the chance to invade. The Fagus forests were cut cleared by man at the end of the 19th century which favoured the Picea forest expansion. In the lateglacial and the beginning of the postglacial time the area around Rolands Hav was occupied by a lake. The lake eventually became overgrown during the postglacial time and a bog with a quagmire developed. A water-level lowering may have allowed a forested fen to spread directly over the gyttja. Later a Sphagnum-carpet extended over the water. 14C-datings were made to date the growing rate of the quagmire. This large quagmire, extending over 90 meters through the area, is worth to protect for the future. (Less)
