Depositional and petrographic response of climatic changes in the Triassic of Höllviken-II, southern Sweden

Abstract
A 180 meter long core sequence of the Höllviken-II deep drilling project was investigated and divided into seven subfacies from a sedimentological point of view. Special attention were paid to criteria used for interpretation of the palaeoclimate. The lowest and the topmost parts of the investigated sequence were interpreted as beeing deposited during hot, desert-like conditions. Intervening parts were deposited in a terrestrial environment, characterized by seasonally dry and humid conditions. There are evidence for short periods of instability in the climate just before a large scale turnover.
