Granatförande pegmatiter i SV Värmland : en mineralogisk och kemisk studie

- Abstract
- In the southwest of the county of Värmland, southwestern Sweden, a group of granite intrusions called the Blomskog granite occurs (Lindh, 1977). When the Blomskog granite intruded into the country rock about 900 Ma ago, it was accompanied by several dikes and massifs of pegmatite and pegmatitic granites, which often are garnet-bearing. E1ectron-microprobe studies of these garnets show that they are spessartine-almandine garnets with about 50% or more of the spessartine component. A mean value from 74 analyses gives a garnet composition with 56 mole% spessartine, 38% almandine, 5% grossularite and 1% pyrope component. The pyrope content is always very small, and in many analyses no magnesium is detected at all. The garnets are almost always... (More)

The pyrope content is always very small, and in many analyses no magnesium is detected at all. The garnets are almost always euhedral, and they show no signs of resorption. This - and the fact that other garnets from the area normallyare very Ca-rich - makes it likely that the origin of the garnets are magmatic. The garnets show small but clear zoning, with Ca increasing
from the margin of the grains towards the core. The zoning of Mn and Fe is weak or nonexistent. (Less)
