Nepalese migrants who are involved in businesses in Scandinavia are survivals in the race of high tech and cross cultural constraints. They are adaptive to use knowledge and education and are also able to learn skills in order to exploit the situation in their favour. A hypothesis is tested among Nepali migrant entrepreneurs by exploring their experiences regarding migration, strategy and adaptability in context to Scandinavia. Abstract:
Nepalese migrants who are involved in businesses in Scandinavia are survivals in the race of high tech and cross cultural constraints. They are adaptive to use knowledge and education and are also able to learn skills in order to exploit the situation in their favour. A hypothesis is tested among Nepali migrant entrepreneurs by exploring their experiences regarding migration, strategy and adaptability in context to Scandinavia. The research has attempted to find the answers of following questions: What are the strategies and traits in adaptation process? Where do Nepali migrant entrepreneurs position themselves? What are the motives behind building organizations and networks in destination? Who are Nepalese entrepreneurs in Scandinavian context? Does this particular phenomenon have any significance in explanatory approach from social science perspective? Answers to these questions will add further knowledge to specific Nepalese migration phenomena their adaptability and learning experience in this region. Various exploration tools were used to identify the focal group and a set of semi structured questionnaire distributed whereas short open questions were asked to the informants concerning questions about Nepali community, entrepreneurship, potentiality and problems to understand underneath reality. Intensive interviews were carried out to both focal group and informants in order to generate qualitative data. Interview data were examined with migration theories, struggles, adaptation relating to entrepreneurship as a situated learning process. In order to make more understanding, a historical development of Nepalese ethnicity in migration process has been extensively discussed. Survival strategies have been interpreted as learning to adaptability and building identity as interpreting them as productive immigrants. The research finds Nepalese migrant entrepreneurs are highly adaptive and optimistic and are in search of building identity for both community and business. The research is expected to beneficial to all those who have interest and nexus with Nepalese community and their situation and their gradual progress in learning in context to Scandinavia. The study will be useful to follow immigration policy for ethnicity and integration. (Less)
