- The aim of this thesis is to test a fundamental assumption in Fukuyama´s theory of the miniaturization of society. That assumption is that large organisations foster a larger radius of trust than smaller organisations do.
Data of individuals memberships and trust in 14 western developed countries is derived from World Value Surveys and European Value Surveys. A series of logistic regressions is made to compare the effect from memberships in different organisations on generalized trust. The focus is on two of Fukuyama´s examples of large organisations that are assumed to cultivate a larger trust, labour unions and political parties. The results shows that no support can be found for the claim that labour unions have a larger effect on...
