(2012) PPTR06 20121Department of Psychology
- Abstract (Swedish)
(Less) - Abstract
- The study aimed at finding out how clients judge ongoing or completed couple counselling at Familjerådgivningen in the city of Malmö. It included all visitors (N=242) during the period of 6th – 27th December 2010. At one occasion they filled in a questionnaire comprising five

The questions comprising the “Gottman-dyad” touch on how well a couple had succeeded in turning to each other to build up a feeling of closeness, friendship and companionship. Three open questions finalize the questionnaire. Overall, the clients were quite satisfied with the Family counselling. They scored gradually higher on the “Gottman-dyad” as they participated in more sessions (p=.0001). Clients, who received counselling in order to repair, compared to those who attended to separate their relationships, were more satisfied. No differences were found between men and women. It is concluded that the counsellors are successful in creating a trustful and open climate during the sessions, promoting constructive discussions that result in positive changes in the couples´ relationship.
