Abstract
This essay is about the fulfillment of the millennium development goals (MDG) and goal five in particular. That goal is about maternal health and has two targets. The first one is to reduce by three quarters the maternal mortality ratio and the second one is to achieve universal access

This essay is about the fulfillment of the millennium development goals (MDG) and goal five in particular. That goal is about maternal health and has two targets. The first one is to reduce by three quarters the maternal mortality ratio and the second one is to achieve universal access

UN and how it handle the critique against the millennium development goals and how it have been a contributed factor to the fact that MDG5 want be fulfilled. The critique against the millennium development goals, which are presented in the analysis, has a base in three theories. These are gender, postcolonialism and redistributive politics and the method of the study is an argumentation analysis. The conclusions and the answer to the main question is that the reason why there haven’t been efforts made to invest in maternal health, which is a condition for the achievement of MDG5, has to do with that some persons within the UN has to much influence. This leads to a backward approach against the fulfillment of women’s rights and especially the right to reproductive health. It has also to do with the dominance of the voices of rich countries in the design of the millennium goals and in the decision making process. (Less)
