Abstract
A report produced by the Swedish Building Commission, pointed out that high costs and poor quality exists in the construction industry. With the goal of getting a more effective building process NCC Construction AB implemented a new production control system. NCC calls the system NCC Project Planning (Swedish: NCC Projektplanering) and it is based on the Last Planner System, a system for planning in the production phase. This study aims to research the experienced effects from conforming to the Last Planner System at NCC. The paper is supposed to work as a follow-up, where the effects from the transition from the precedent system to the newer system are going to be identified. The study is an empiric qualitative study with a core study... (More)

This study aims to research the experienced effects from conforming to the Last Planner System at NCC. The paper is supposed to work as a follow-up, where the effects from the transition from the precedent system to the newer system are going to be identified. The study is an empiric qualitative study with a core study based on interviews. The study begins with recognized theories around Lean, the traditional production system and the application of the Last Planner System at NCC, NCC Project Planning. The results from the research show that NCC Project Planning is considered positive. Everyone interviewed consider that the system had contributed to an increase in commitment and participation. The study shows that the effects, in connection with the application of the Last Planner System, can be characterized as; a more reliable planning, larger commitment and participation, better knowledge transfers and the fact that the system is resource-demanding when used in smaller projects. From the study one can ratiocinate that the implementation of NCC Project Planning shows signs of having a positive impact on production. (Less)
