Abstract
This essay is a statistical analysis on the patients at the rheumatology clinic of Lund. We investigate whether effects of the treatment differ depending on the patient’s diagnosis, sex, age and drug. Diagnoses included in this study are rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, spondarthritis, juvenile chronic arthritis and arthritis. The drugs we investigate in this study are Mabthera inf, Cimzia inj, Enbrel inj, Remicade inf, Humira inj, Methotrexate po and Simponi inj.
The statistical method that has been used to analyze the data is analysis of variance. The effect of the treatment has been measured as the change from treatment start to follow-up in some different measures. These measurements are Das28Esr, Das28Crp, log(Crp), Haq,... (More)

The statistical method that has been used to analyze the data is analysis of variance. The effect of the treatment has been measured as the change from treatment start to follow-up in some different measures. These measurements are Das28Esr, Das28Crp, log(Crp), Haq, Eq5d and the numbers of swollen joints. The changes in these measurements are the dependent factors in the variance analyses.
A two-way variance analysis shows that there are significant differences in both factor sex and factor diagnosis. The treatment has better effect on men than women. For factor diagnosis the analyze shows that patients with juvenile chronic arhritis gets especially good effect and psoriatic arthritis patients has a very poor effect. There are also some indications about interaction between sex and diagnosis; there is a tendency for women with arthritis getting better effects than men, while men with spondarthritis gets much better results than women. This interaction effect cannot be considered as established and this could be a subject for further analysis at the clinic.
In a three-way variance analysis patients with rheumatoid arthritis specifically was studied. The analysis showed that there are significant differences depending on what medicine the patient is ordered; Humira and Enbrel are the drugs with best effect. The medicines Remicade, Mabthera och Simponi has the lowest effect. The two other factors, sex and age, didn’t showed any significant differences. Any interactioneffects between the factors wasn´t found either.
We have also found that log(Crp) are a suitable measure to use when comparing diagnoses with each other and Das28Esr or Das28Crp are appropriate to use when analyzing a specific diagnosis. (Less)
