Abstract
In this paper I have investigated what factors that may affect the recruitment, such as whether the applicant is a recent graduate, parent of young children, have been trained abroad or approaching retirement. I also want to investigate how the choice of candidates is affected if there is surplus, balance or a shortage of labor as it is for cultural secretaries, for the physical education teachers and dispensers. And what experience and qualities are rewarded for choosing candidates to interview. I used Bourdieu's theories of social and symbolic capital, as well as economic theories about the cause of discrimination.
To investigate this further, I conducted a survey for cultural managers, pharmacy managers and headmasters where they had to select three candidates out of six fictitious candidates representing different types of education, experience and qualities. The survey showed that for a job as cultural secretary, where there is a surplus of applicants, it is whether the applicant has previous experience in a similar service that is rewarded. Personal characteristics such as being social and creative are also highly valued, and what Bourdieu calls symbolic capital. For physical education teachers it is important whether the person has a teaching degree. Thus, a newly trained can be selected before someone with years of professional experience, but without a degree. Although it is an example of symbolic capital when someone is attributed certain characteristics by a diploma. Pharmacy Managers also valued experience, but also a recent graduate have a good chance of getting a job. (Less)
