Abstract (Swedish)
A qualitative study using semi-structured interviews were conducted at Handelsbanken in southern Sweden to identify and evaluate the bank’s recruitment process, with focus on achieving greater diversity within the workforce. Five women with personnel and varying seniority in the bank participated in the study. A thematic analysis was used and the following five main themes were identified; diversity, internal recruitment, external recruitment, strengths and weaknesses in the recruitment process in relation to the homogeneity and heterogeneity, and ideas for improvements to achieve greater heterogeneity. Handelsbanken's management expresses a desire for greater diversity in staff and it was found that although respondents thought it was very important to have diversity in the organization when the bank wants to reflect society and its customers. It was also found that Handelsbanken largely makes use of internal recruitment, which contributes to the existence of many of the same employees, thus hamper the diversity aspect. If Handelsbanken wishes more heterogeneity in the workforce it is suggested that the bank considers to develop clearer job descriptions for recruitment and to increase external recruitment. (Less)
