- Abstract
- The aim of this study is to investigate similarities and differences in the arguments
used in two debates about forced sterilization in Sweden.
The first period stretches from 1922 up to 1941, the second from 2010

In the analysis of the empirical data, my theoretical framework has been social
constructivism. Fundamentally, there are substantial similarities in the
argumentation for and against forced sterilization.
At the same time, the study makes clear how the two debates reflect the social
development that ha occurred between the 20th and the 21st centuries. In the first
period, social and economic arguments are central, whereas in the second the
individual comes to the fore. (Less)
