The teacher’s positive experiences of their social relationships at work, was related to the amount of intrinsic motivation they reported. The better the participant perceived their social relationships to be, the more intrinsically motivated they felt at work. A multiple regression was conducted to examine the strength of the effect social relationships had on intrinsic motivation. Results showed that 31 % of the variation in intrinsic motivation can be explained by social relationships. The conclusion based on the results was that teachers who experience friendships at work also had higher levels of intrinsic motivation than teachers who don’t experience friendships at work. Also that the better they perceive these friendships to be, the higher levels of intrinsic motivation they experience. (Less)
