Abstract
Men that fall victim for sexual abuse, is a subject that is not discussed in the day to day basis. The purpose with this study is to highlight the norms and attitudes that exist about men that fall victim for sexual abuse and how these norms are constructed among younger adults. The empirical material is composed through four focus groups with a total of 22 individuals. To process and analyse the material we have used a social constructivistic perspective to be able to see the norm and how it is constructed. Together with this, we have used Hydéns ideas of how norms are constructed and theories about masculinity to get a further dimension in our study. Furthermore, the study follows an ethnomethodological perspective throughout as the norm... (More)

To process and analyse the material we have used a social constructivistic perspective to be able to see the norm and how it is constructed. Together with this, we have used Hydéns ideas of how norms are constructed and theories about masculinity to get a further dimension in our study. Furthermore, the study follows an ethnomethodological perspective throughout as the norm is seen as a construction of social interaction. The norms that the respondents constructed, showed to go in line with a masculinitynorm, different levels of manliness control whether an individual can become victim for sexual abuse or not. The norm that was constructed, expressed that men only can be exposed to sexual abuse in three exceptions, if they are unconscious, exposed to a lot of violence or physical threat and if the man relies on the offender, mainly because of age differences. The norm construction follows the masculinitynorm because the lack of knowledge of the phenomena, which leads to a lack of definitions and words to express the experience. Because of this the respondents of the study got their knowledge from the secondary source of the social conceptions of sexual abuse and manliness. (Less)
