The purpose of this study was to explore how people with a criminal background reflect on
their past experience and views on the possibility of taking part in the labour market. The
theories used to explain the results are of Erving Goffman's dramaturgical model and
Goffman’s theory about stigma, the work also consists of Gunnar Bergströms definition of a
criminal lifestyle. For this study, in the interest of extensive knowledge, we have chosen a
qualitative approach of interviewing eight individuals. The selected group was people that had
sentence a large number of abuse and violence crimes, as crime has been an annual part in
their life. These individuals have attempted to integrate back to the labour market. The
primary sources for our study were interviews, literature, also internet sources have been
important implements to put in practice. Furthermore, we have created an interview guide in
order to execute our interviews. The results indicate that some of the respondents prepare
themselves with a fictional story in order to avoid questions about their criminal past.
Whereas, others truthfully answered the questions they were being asked during the
interview. The result of this study also shows that the respondents chose to be honest on the
interviews for themselves, seeing as they did not want to fail themselves (Less)
