The study was conducted by a qualitative method in the form of semi-structured interviews. The study involved ten social work students in their first and second years of training. Seven of the students had no experience of the work, one had worked with financial assistance and two students had relatives with experience of the profession.Yet another interview was executed with one person responsible of social work practice at the university. The results were then analyzed on the basis of social construction theory and with help of Simmels’ model. The results showed that social work students with no experience have a negative view of work with financial assistance. They also had a negative attitude towards the social welfare officers. The three students who had knowledge of the profession had a more neutralized opinion. The students with no experience said that they had formed this opinion from what was said on the media and by their relatives and friends. They also argued that their training had influenced their point of view. For example by lack of information and statements that the students perceived to be negative. (Less)
