- Abstract
- This thesis examines Swedish relation to the EU’s 2020 goal in terms of energy efficiency and renewable resources. In 2010 EU came up with a new unified goal for all member states. One of the five targets concerns environment: until 2020 every member state should increase its energy efficiency with 20%; the total amount of energy production came from renewable resources should be 20% as well. Sweden foresees the energy efficiency target will not be achieved even though Sweden is working hardly with efficiency program from EU directives and on a national level. On the other hand, 20 % target for energy production from renewable resources was achieved by the country even before EU’s 2020 goal was communicated. Sweden does not stop working... (More)
- This thesis examines Swedish relation to the EU’s 2020 goal in terms of energy efficiency and renewable resources. In 2010 EU came up with a new unified goal for all member states. One of the five targets concerns environment: until 2020 every member state should increase its energy efficiency with 20%; the total amount of energy production came from renewable resources should be 20% as well. Sweden foresees the energy efficiency target will not be achieved even though Sweden is working hardly with efficiency program from EU directives and on a national level. Sweden does not stop working here but sets up own target to 50%.Electricity Certificate System will help to achieve it. Its advantage is paradoxically the disadvantage from an energy efficiency perspective; it just promotes new power production plants instead of effective utilization of already existing ones. However, while using a top-down approach it is vital to understand opinions of energy companies operating on the market regarding EU’s and Swedish environmental policies. They all will contribute with a big share to environmental targets meeting or not. The interviewed companies emphasized that the environmental policies had influenced them both when putting up their own goals, defining strategies and when managing their businesses. The companies are concerned by lack of long term rules which influences decisions towards making investments or not. (Less)
