The relationship between the social political constructions; The Orient and The Occident; The East and The West; Them and Us is not a new mental synthesis. However, it was during the colonial era the idea of The Other manifested itself within the narrative. The colonial heritage is still evident in today’s discourse regarding the Diaspora. Postcolonial theory aim to create awareness around the circumstances the discourse was finalised during, as well as identifying its recurrent theme in today’s society. The liability lays in the risk of further incorporate a discourse they try to eliminate. The relationship between the social political constructions; The Orient and The Occident; The East and The West; Them and Us is not a new mental synthesis. However, it was during the colonial era the idea of The Other manifested itself within the narrative. The colonial heritage is still evident in today’s discourse regarding the Diaspora. Postcolonial theory aim to create awareness around the circumstances the discourse was finalised during, as well as identifying its recurrent theme in today’s society. The Diaspora has utilised these transnational networks to strengthen the group at a local and global level. Several scholars consider the identity of the Diaspora as a constant evolving process, which means it consists of multiple parts, but is defined by context. A recent trend in Great Britain for example, has seen the Diaspora excluding from within. Therefore marginalisation has come to reinforce group identity and widen the gap to The Other. What used to be an exclusion, has now come to exclude. (Less)
