Inmatning av biogas utan propantillsats på Lunds Energis naturgasnät - en förstudie till smarta gasnät.

Abstract
The use of natural gas is increasing globally. At the same time, the cheap and easily accessible resources are decreasing rapidly. Among other alternative gases, biogas is considered since it is a renewable resource. In order for biogas to really become a large scale alternative, it needs to be fully compatible with today’s infrastructure and gas applications.
This report is evaluating the technical aspects of feeding biogas without propane, hence with a lower gas quality, into a distribution gas grid in Lund, Sweden. The use of natural gas is increasing globally. At the same time, the cheap and easily accessible resources are decreasing rapidly. Among other alternative gases, biogas is considered since it is a renewable resource. In order for biogas to really become a large scale alternative, it needs to be fully compatible with today’s infrastructure and gas applications.
This report is evaluating the technical aspects of feeding biogas without propane, hence with a lower gas quality, into a distribution gas grid in Lund, Sweden. The main gas quality parameter used is wobbeindex. The technical aspects have been analysed according to four different customer groups; gas turbines, heating, transport and industry. All groups have been identified in the gas grid of Lunds Energi, the local energy supplier.
In conclusion, interviews, calculations and literature, point out that it is technically possible to feed in biogas upgraded to 98 % methane into the Swedish natural gas grid, if all gas applications lacking feedback systems have their reference point adjusted to G20. For optimal use, all industry applications should be evaluated individually.
To get an overview of the situation on the gas grid when feeding pure biogas into it, a simulation model based on the customers real gas use was made. Although some obvious limitations in the model existed, interesting results and greater understanding of the system was reached.
The two big asphalts plants, dominating the gas consumption in the east grid, proved to be of great importance. The result is a large overproduction of biogas all hours when the plants are not in use, about 75 % of hours each year, while natural gas needs to be fed in to the eastern grid when the asphalt production is running.
The most appropriate system for Lunds Energi, both concerning technical and economical aspects, would be a system where the biogas without propane is fed into the high pressure pipe connecting Lund and Dalby. A billing system that is fair for both the supplier and the customer could be done by introducing a gas quality tracking system that resembles the model used in this report. (Less)
