Abstract
This study will explain the effect populist parties have on the convergence of the traditional parties in a country. By focusing on Denmark and France, both countries with a very successful rightist populist party but with a different electoral system, the study will explain how the convergence was affected before and after a populist party got popular. The analysis is made from reviews of the political year in each country and will focus on the economical and socio-cultural dimension of politics. The results from the study show that the populist party has had an effect on the convergence in Denmark, but not in France. In Denmark the populist party; Dansk Folkeparti, was able to influence the other parties by being essential to the... (More)

The results from the study show that the populist party has had an effect on the convergence in Denmark, but not in France. In Denmark the populist party; Dansk Folkeparti, was able to influence the other parties by being essential to the government making of the main Danish rightwing party. In France however, the populist party; Front National, got crippled by the electoral system and barely had any seats in parliament. This made the influence of Front National relatively small and the traditional parties could therefore focus mainly on each other. (Less)
