RealQ-KML is a clinical decision support system combined with tools for quality assessment for chronic myeloid leukemia (CML). Thanks to the introduction of modern treatment CML is a chronic disease, which during its follow-up generates large quantities of data. The aim of this study was to evaluate how this program could be used at the Department of Hematology, at Skåne University Hospital, to identify benefits and limitations, as well as to obtain qualitative data about the patients of the department.

RealQ-KML is a clinical decision support system combined with tools for quality assessment for chronic myeloid leukemia (CML). The aim of this study was to evaluate how this program could be used at the Department of Hematology, at Skåne University Hospital, to identify benefits and limitations, as well as to obtain qualitative data about the patients of the department.
RealQ-KML
The decision support in the program visualizes the patients course of disease and automatically calculates treatment response according to guidelines. Registered data will also be able to be used for reporting to the national quality register. The program further allows to make a quality assessment over all patients at the clinic by calculating quality factors and allowing data to be extracted for research.
RESULTS AND DISCUSSION
95 patients at the department have been registered and statistical data extracted. During the study both benefits and limitations were found. As RealQ-KML is still under development, some problems may be addressed, while others are inherent to the RealQ-platform or general limitations of computer programs. There are high expectations that clinical decision support programs will increase efficiency, and while studies do confirm some effects, there is still not enough evidence to support widespread use. RealQ-KML offers a range of interesting tools to the clinic, but needs further development to reach its full potential. (Less)
