- Abstract
- This master thesis started off as a project to build a product platform for the product category of built-in ovens with the Swedish white goods brand Cylinda. But as a part of Cylinda’s work in adapting a new brand value platform this thesis also became a part of the process of adding the brand value in to the products without moving away too much from the present product range of built-in ovens but at the same time repre-sent a future product design platform.

With different analytic processes, the product of built-in ovens was evaluated within the aspect of consumer needs, brand value and market trends. As a first step, impacts from external factors regarding the Cylinda brand, consumers, competitors and mar-ket influences were evaluated and discussed. The analysis continued into impact areas of the product which is controlled by the product itself. These factors were the prod-uct functions, usability, and design language and product quality.
The result of the analysis was then transferred into product requirements in an evalua-tion process which had a focus on usability, product quality, and product design and product functionality.
The product requirements and criteria were put together in a product platform which for Cylinda could be used as an evaluation tool for new built-in oven models. The product design platform could then in a product development process work as guide-lines for the product design and product features of the upcoming built-in ovens. And by using the platform Cylinda would not lose their brand identity and target group requirements as they produce and develop new products. This product design plat-form also became the result of this thesis. (Less)
