The aim of this study was to examine counselor’s consideration of the child perspective in adult psychiatry. More specifically its aim was to find out how counselors themselves look upon their consideration of the child perspective working in an outpatient psychiatric reception for adults, and if they have experienced a change in their own consideration today in relation to the prior amendment in the Health Care Act. The study´s major findings were that the counselors do have a child perspective; however it has not changed significantly since this amendment. The respondents believe that their training as a social worker is a contributing factor to the attention of the child perspective in their work with the patients. This result illustrate the social workers and the counselors specific professional skills and authority, which are of importance in adult psychiatry when taking into account the children of patients and the child perspective, according to the amendment in the health care law.
