Abstract
Guitar methods past and present – A comperative analysis of guitar methods from the 19th century and today.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of early 19th century guitar methods on guitar methods of today from a technical, musical and pedagogical point of view. While the main methodology has been to make a comparative literature study, this has also implied a highly interpretative approach. There is also a sociological aspect of the inquiry. In the chapter "background and previous research" I outline the development of the classical guitar from the 19th century untill today. I also present important pedagogical movements in the 19th century

In the chapter "background and previous research" I outline the development of the classical guitar from the 19th century untill today. I also present important pedagogical movements in the 19th century
and in our days. I have analyzed four historical guitar methods and four modern schools. In the results chapter every school is presented chronologically and the focus of the analysis is on the main areas of guitar technique such as arpeggio, scales and slurring as well as on the
more over-arching pedagogical approaches. My conclusions are that the most concrete influence of the historical schools lies within repertoire pieces and in arpeggio exercises while the pedagogical aproaches have changed significantly. (Less)
Abstract (Swedish)
I resultatkapitlet presenteras varje
(More)

(Less)
