- Abstract (Swedish)
(More)

(Less)
- Abstract
- The leachate from the landfill Kejsarkullens deponiis purified by natural infiltration in a moraine deposit. Since the infiltration area has been used for decades, the Municipality of Hultsfred questions whether or not the soil is saturated with pollutants and if a new reception area is needed. To make such an investigation, the flow path of the leachate plume must initially be located. Thereby locations for soil samples can be determined in order to measure if the soil indeed is saturated with pollutants. This study aims to locate the subsurface flow path of the leachate by using a geophysical survey method (resistivity). Different materials have different capacity to conduct electricity. Since leachate is characterized by low resistivity while groundwater has a comparatively higher resistivity, it is thereby possible to distinguish the leachate plume.
The survey was carried out with resistivity measuring at the assumed location of the leachate plume. A resistivity line was also issued near an observation well where deviating water samples had been taken, indicating possible leachate pollution. The geophysical survey resulted in a final flow path, where a diffuse zone separated the leachate from the surrounding groundwater. No leachate could be detected in the observation well. (Less)
