The study shows that almost 80 % of the government officials who took part in the survey had experienced a ”destructive conflict” in their profession. The interviews highlight how complex, social realities affect the work of the conservation authorities.
The conclusions of the paper are that the government officials concerned with nature conservation are highly exposed to conflicts in their work, and that many, although not all, consider the conflicts a problem. The possibility of overcoming the conflicts is a question of interpersonal relations, but it also entails larger questions of the individual subjects position in the liberal state and the discursive room for common, collective interests.
