The purpose of this thesis was to describe and analyze the social services and the police’s local collaboration with regard to youth crime, in the Swedish city Landskrona. It addressed following questions: How do the social services and the police’s local collaboration look like? How do social workers and police officers experience their collaboration? What do they experience facilitates their collaboration? Which obstacles or difficulties do they experience in their co-operation? To gather the necessary data seven interviews with social workers and police officers were conducted. Based on previous research the approach in the study was that collaboration is a difficult task due to the organizations different perspectives and organizational conditions. Another approach was that a functioning collaboration is when the collaborative partners agree on the collaborative terms and their different roles and functions are united. The social workers and police officers described their collaboration primarily as functioning and they experienced their collaboration mainly in positive terms. Understanding was a particular element of their collaboration and the ultimate facilitator in their collaboration. Other facilitators were commitment and communication. The social services secrecy and their different perspectives was a difficulty in their collaboration, while the police’s incomplete resource was an obstacle since the collaborative partners weren’t able to perform as they planned in all situations due to the police’s incomplete resources.
