Abstract
The aim of this bachelor thesis is to evaluate two risk classification methods for contaminated areas, the MIFO-method and the LeGrand-method. The MIFO-method was developed by Swedish authorities and is used primarily to prioritize which potentially contaminated areas to proceed with for further investigation and possible remediation. The method can be used for most types of contaminated areas except for landfills. The LeGrand-method is mainly used to evaluate the risk of severe pollution damage of ground- or surface water due to landfills. The method is therefore well suited for risk classification of groundwater or surface water that are worth to protect, but can also be used by operators to risk classify objects on their own as it is a... The LeGrand-method is mainly used to evaluate the risk of severe pollution damage of ground- or surface water due to landfills. The method is therefore well suited for risk classification of groundwater or surface water that are worth to protect, but can also be used by operators to risk classify objects on their own as it is a relatively inexpensive and quick method. However, it is important to keep in mind to choose a risk assessment methodology that corresponds to the purpose of the investigation. (Less)
