Abstract
In the radio documentary Narkotikalandet Sverige made during late 2012 by the Swedish radio channel P1 the narcotic-related part of society is explored in three separate parts. The first part explores the heroin market in the Swedish capitol of Stockholm. Focused around Sergels Torg the reporter explores a part of the Swedish society that many either doesn’t know exist or they choose to ignore it. The distribution of heroin is sold openly on the street and behind these street level dealers networks and organisations of criminals stand a lot to earn in poisoning and destroying other people’s lives. Who should we counter this threat to the Swedish society?
Our study is based on the American tv-show called “The Wire”. A method which may seem unusual but consider that many universities, including Harvard and Johns Hopkins, use “The Wire” as a basis for sociology courses in urban inequalities. The use of “The Wire” gives us the opportunity and possibility to explore and analyse a heroin market that is well established and rooted in the local society allowing us a deeper understanding of the organisations and networks behind the distribution than we would using more conventional methods.
With the use of the normative model created by Håkan Hydén we could establish a link between normative components and certain people in the organisation. Thus targeting these individuals would result in the greatest impact on the normative power driving individuals towards criminal behavior. (Less)
