- This paper provides an in-depth overview of the past developments and systematic underpinnings of Sweden’s motion picture industry. It is meant to present an understanding and onward assessment of film financing in Sweden. The chief issue under discussion is the ongoing viability of public funding in Swedish productions and how it has been used as a protective measure towards Hollywood’s ever-growing dominance. - This paper provides an in-depth overview of the past developments and systematic underpinnings of Sweden’s motion picture industry. It is meant to present an understanding and onward assessment of film financing in Sweden. The aforementioned funds are looked at from a filmmaker’s perspective with importance placed on maximizing public film financing. Svensk Filmindustri, Sandrews, and to a certain extent Europa Film are all profiled and used as examples in this paper. The combined parts of this research offer a reflection on the vitality of Sweden’s motion picture industry and insight into where it could be headed. (Less)
