- Abstract
- Construction business is responsible for a large portion of the world's emissions of greenhouse gases. As part of the work against this, environmental certifications has become more and more common. This is partly because consumers have been more willing to pay more for products or services with low environmental impact and this has had a major impact on the construction industry.
In this study, we investigate how much influence concrete and concrete companies can have on various environmental certifications and what the differences between the various certification schemes are.
The report is limited to five certifications, BREEAM, LEED, Miljöbyggnad, Aktivhus and Passivhus. BREEAM and LEED takes into account the entire life cycle and not... In this study, we investigate how much influence concrete and concrete companies can have on various environmental certifications and what the differences between the various certification schemes are.
The report is limited to five certifications, BREEAM, LEED, Miljöbyggnad, Aktivhus and Passivhus. BREEAM and LEED takes into account the entire life cycle and not just the house and use phase. Miljöbyggnad include energy consumption in a building, which means you can apply it on already existing buildings.
After weighting, the score for Miljöbyggnad was 67% concrete impact. The BREEAM concrete score was 50% and 45% in LEED after weighting. In Passivhus and Aktivhus we could not do any calculations since there was no information on how to calculate the score for concrete.
The results of the study indicate that the concrete can have a significant impact on environmental certifications. (Less)
