Abstract
Scania Commercial Vehicle Aktiebolag, Scania CV AB, is a manufacturer of heavy vehicles, busses and engines for industry and marine environments. The comprehensive projects at Scania CV AB are led by a main office which coordinates work between different units. This case study was performed at the department for engine assembling at Scania, and consists of five project leaders who lead the engine related deliveries to the main project.

The purpose of this thesis is to make the work processes of the project leaders at the department of engine assembling more effective. The aim of the thesis was to make proposals on how the purpose of this thesis will be fulfilled. Therefore, the main questions to be answered were:

The comprehensive projects at Scania CV AB are led by a main office which coordinates work between different units. This case study was performed at the department for engine assembling at Scania, and consists of five project leaders who lead the engine related deliveries to the main project.

The purpose of this thesis is to make the work processes of the project leaders at the department of engine assembling more effective. The aim of the thesis was to make proposals on how the purpose of this thesis will be fulfilled. Therefore, the main questions to be answered were:

• In which ways may the work processes of the project leaders be more effective?
o What does the work processes of the project leaders look like?
o Which problem areas can be observed?
o How can these problem areas be improved?

An inductive- qualitative study method was chosen and iterated. Data related to the project leaders were collected through practice, observations, interviews, benchmarking and a workshop. The gathered information has continuously been validated and the reliability of this study is therefore high.

During the case study, problems were observed regarding the work processes, the leader role of the project leaders and the communication within the projects. Thereafter, proposals on how the work processes could be made more effective were made.

It is proposed that the project leaders should measure the number of process improvement activities as a key performance indicator, in order to encourage further work processes improvements. It is also suggested that lessons, should be learned more frequently in the projects and a workshop method, which can be used in order to innovate further process improvements, is presented.
In order to make the leadership even more value-adding, it is suggested that the project leaders can work more frequently and structured with feedback both in their should not only derive their leadership actions, but also motivate these actions from the Scania productions system.
Communication processes can be made more clear and synchronized with the use of a project portal. Also, a daily meeting with the objective to solve problems within the group is suggested, in order to increase the team spirit of the project leader group. (Less)
