Explaining the foundation in established theory the paper presents the theoretical model ”virus” as a conceptual model for understanding the relationship between (political) deception and the ”host” culture targeted by deception. The theoretical model ”virus” is further examined through three historical illustrations of modern use of political deception, to establish an understanding of the phenomenon of (political) deception.
The main analytical chapter discusses the changing conditions of (political) deception in the information age through a general overview of deception and technological progress, cultural structural weakness resulting from changes in how information is processed in the present, changes in the ability to create a functional understanding of culture in the present information age and changes in how information is disseminated in the information age.
