Abstract
This thesis aims to understand and define the core characteristics of the concept integration and thus allow the writer to analyze the Swedish integration policy set at national level. When defining the concept of integration the thesis finds that the principles of equality, equal participation and the political will to curb segregation go hand in hand with the preconditioned democratic principles which society ought to be constructed from. Further, integration should be understood as a holistic two-way process between the groups and individuals of society and is not to be considered as a one-way process for minorities to adapt to the host society. By applying the theoretical framework through a three dimensioned tool for analysis the thesis evaluates whether the Swedish integration policy correspond with the definition of integration set out earlier. The results of the analysis points to a policy with a satisfactory understanding of the concept although some of the recently published statements is pointing towards a one-way motivated adaption policy for migrants and minorities.
