- In western society and culture we are constantly surrounded by images in various forms. Popular culture is a large part of our everyday lives and we get information about ourselves and the world through it. Conventions and stereotypes in the society are created and maintained through discourses. Because of the impact popular cultural expression have on society it should be of more interest for analyses within the subject of political science. - In western society and culture we are constantly surrounded by images in various forms. Seen through art history, men have had the political powers themselves to decide what the portrayal of a man should contain. Female artists have neither had the power nor the access to decide what the portrayal of a woman should contain. Thus the portrayal of women have been made through the eyes of men. The study showed that images of female mutants in the comic books generally were conventional and stereotypically portrayed. (Less)
