Abstract
Sweden has the highest rate of single households in the world (2012) as nearly half of the population live by themselves. Even though many Swedes live alone research suggests that dinner party trends (social cooking) will increase - a simple activity, regarding both cost and accessibility, that brings us together with friends and family in our single household life style. I am addressing the scenario of living alone and hosting a dinner party, focusing on compact living as over 80% of the Swedish population live in urban areas.

The system of cooking is mainly a combination of movement and relaxation; preparing the food and dining. Counter top surface is key when preparing food and small kitchens tend to have a lack of it, especially during a dinner party when several people are preparing food simultaneously. Most kitchens have a table planned in the layout and the table can be used as an additional surface for
preparing food on. Unless it is a bar table, the height of a standard kitchen table is unergonomic to stand by and work on, yet a bar table is not suitable for people in wheelchairs or practical for children and elderly. This debate ultimately led me into designing a height adjustable and space efficient kitchen table.

BORD V1 is a small sized kitchen table that can host up to 4 persons dining. Half of the surface is height adjustable and when raised the surface is at the same level as a standard kitchen counter top, creating an additional surface on which you can prepare food. The adjusting of the height can easily be achieved by one person. The frame is constructed by box section steel, making it light yet stable and the overall simplistic aesthetics makes it suit a wide range of homes. The oak top is durable for any type of food preparation yet smooth, and by keeping the wooden finish it adds a natural feel to the product. Production is cost effective and
sustainable, because of the long life span of BORD V1 in combination with locally produced materials and easy disassembling for reparation and recycling. (Less)
