- Abstract
- The aim of this study was to describe and understand how some fathers who were inmates at correctional institutions sees their fatherhood, and how some professionals within correctional institutions sees fatherhood of criminal fathers. The study was based on two interviews with criminal fathers, content analysis of a book with reportage based on interviews with criminal fathers and one interview with an employee within correctional institutions. The criminal fathers talk about the importance to be honest with their children. The professionals do not have the same opinion as the fathers. They think that the criminal fathers are “not good enough” fathers. If they take responsibility for their criminal actions they can be good fathers and great role models. The professional works to support the criminal fathers can be better fathers and better citizens after served in jail time. In our analysis we have used theoretical concepts such as fatherhood, masculinity and deviant behavior such as stigma and handling of stigma. (Less)
