- Abstract
- There is no illness without a name – A study in the importance of diagnosis
The aim of this study was to examine and gain knowledge about the psychiatric disabilities in social work. More specifically we wanted to examine how the diagnosis could impact on a persons prospects of treatment and to see the advantages and disadvantages with being diagnosed. The study was conducted by interviewing eight professionals who all work with people that suffer from psychiatric disabilities by using a semi-structured interview. We found that all of the professionals agree that the constitution of diagnoses in itself does not determine the course of treatment but that it is the persons abilities and difficulties that determines the choice of treatment.
