- Abstract (Swedish)
(More)

- Abstract
- The purpose of this study is to find out how students' pianistic and musical development can be supported by playing simple arranged jazz songs. The idea behind the study is the thought of being able to play rhythmic and fun but simple jazz tunes with piano students from the beginner's stage, which led to my decision of making my own arrangements of jazz standards for piano students, individually or in groups. In the study, which has been made with a qualitative research approach, six piano students have been documented by video during three lessons each. During these lessons they have been playing four of my arrangements of jazz tunes. The results of the study show that students have practiced and in many cases improved several aspects of... (More)

During these lessons they have been playing four of my arrangements of jazz tunes. The results of the study show that students have practiced and in many cases improved several aspects of music and piano playing, such as rhythm and pulse, phrasing, interplaying, ear training, improvisation, technique and tonal range and the will to play. The students’ pianistic and musical development has been supported by training the aforementioned skills while playing these simple arrangements of jazz tunes. The results also show that playing these simple arrangemens of jazz tunes have given the students the opportunity of playing and making music together. In the discussion I present my thoughts of the importance of making the piano playing sound like music from the beginning with simple means. (Less)
