En diskursanalys av den statliga pressens rapportering av det anti-muslimska våldet i Myanmar
(2014) MRSG20 20132Human Rights Studies
- Abstract
- Myanmar has made some reforms in the last couple of years but still the country is facing many difficulties. The aim of this paper is to see how the authorities in Myanmar report about the violence that has been directed towards the country’s Muslim population. This is done through a critical discourse analysis of the state-controlled newspaper The New Light of Myanmar. The findings suggest that the Myanmar authorities do not want to describe the violence as an ethnic or religious conflict. Attempts are also made in the ambition of making the conflict appear less severe than it really is.
