Anxiety disorder is characterized by constant and overwhelming worry and fear which can be paralyzing. The aim of this study was to explore how professionals perceive the different roles in treatment of anxiety based on the professional identity and in demarcation of other professionals. Three different in-depth interviews were conducted with one psychologist, one psychiatrist and one counselor, all experienced professionals in treatment of anxiety disorders. The social identity theory and Hasenfelds theory on human service organizations were used to analyze the empirical data. The conclusion of this study is that different professional view anxiety and roles based on their academic background and work related experience. There is a difference in the views of treating young adults with anxiety amongst the different professional groups. The aim of this study was not to draw conclusions on any professional affiliation, it is a presentation in regard to those who have been a part of this study. (Less)
