- Abstract
- In a rhetorical situation there are two factors that determine how the receivers perceive what is communicated: the performance, actio – the speech’s how, and the person of the speaker, ethos – the speech’s who. The posture, diction and attitude of the speaker must master to meet all of the audience's eyes, while helping to clarify the message that the communication is intended to convey. Thus, there are many choices a speaker must make in terms of how he presents himself to his audience, in the role of the speaker. Is it the performance that elicits the personality, or is it the personality that elicits the performance? - I en retorisk situation är det två faktorer som avgör hur mottagarna uppfattar det som kommuniceras: Dels är det framförandet, actio – talets hur, dels är det talarens person, ethos – talets vem. Den kroppshållning, språkstil och attityd talaren har ska klara av publikens alla ögon, och samtidigt hjälpa till att tydliggöra det budskap som kommunikationen syftar till att förmedla. Det finns således en mängd val en talare måste göra vad gäller hur han eller hon presenterar sig själv för sin publik, i rollen som talare. Är det framförandet som framkallar personligheten, eller är det personligheten som framkallar framförandet?
