- Abstract
- This study is based on the letters of Mar-Issar, an Assyrian official working at the end of Esarhaddon's reign, as the supervisor of the reconstruction and restoration of sanctuaries in the main Babylonian cities, and the reorganization of their cult. His letters constitute a correspondence with the Assyrian king, mainly about the completion of reconstruction works in the southern kingdom of Mesopotamia. The detailed study of the letters, concerning their content as well as their structure, is a real key to understanding the materiality of the embellishment of the sanctuaries and statues.
